Fun Facts About Me |
Autism Advocacy |
|
I was diagnosed with high functioning autism when I was two years old. For ten years of my pre-teen/teenage life, I did advocacy and fundraising work with the Autism Society of Colorado. I also spoke in front of Colorado legislation to pass a bill for autism funding when I was twelve years old. I still do advocacy work today, collaborating closely with other leaders on the autism spectrum. I am very proud of being on the autism spectrum, and I appreciate how my autism has made me a better teacher. I use my art and creative writing to address harmful stigmas and stereotypes that impact the autism community. My current creative writing work is specifically focusing on autism in the LGBTQ+ community. Outside of teaching, I'm very passionate about empowering young leaders on the autism spectrum.
